Between Therapist and Client: The New Relationship
Published in Paperback by W H Freeman & Co. (September, 1997)
Authors: Michael Kahn, Richard F. Thompson, and Gardner Lindzey
Average review score:

An essential for the budding therapist
This is a clear, well-written book that examines those elements of the therapist-client relationship which can either be therapeutic or anti-therapeutic. Kahn gives a brief overview of the different perspectives of transference/countertransference and how to use these aspects effectively while avoiding common pitfalls. I strongly recommend this text for beginning graduate students of psychotherapy.

easy and fun read for those who don't know psych basics
I love how Mr. Kahn writes, he takes concepts that are difficult and simplifies them so even though I don't know much about psychology I was able to understand the fascinating theories he outlines.

Wonderful book for anyone learning the art of psychotherapy
As a graduate student newly entering the world of psychotherapy from a professional standpoint, I found Michael Kahn's book a real reading treasure. His explanations of issues such as transference (and countertransference), and the way in which these phenomena have been viewed over time, was interesting to read and valuable learning for any therapist-to-be. He does a beautiful job of taking theoretical information and explaining it in such a way that it can be understood and utilized immediately with clients. Also, Michael brings a personal touch to his book which I found increases it's worth even further. I highly recommend this book for anyone interested in learning about psychotherapy, particularly self-psychology; and I sincerely hope he decides to write more in the future!

The Leather Covered Edition of the Spanish Thompson Chain Reference is ideal for a durable, life-time Bible. It has all of the standard features of the Thompson Chain Reference system, which indexes topics and subjects in the margin adjacent to the corresponding text, with an alpahbetical index of subjects and topics in the back. It also includes a color Bible atlas, a condordance, character studies, book outlines, a harmony of the Gospels, and an interesting archaeological supplement with photographs. If you only have one Bible, this is the one to have, because of the extensive reference system. Spanish Thompson Chain Reference Bible Review
I have used the English version Thompson Chain Reference Bible for years, and was thrilled to discover that it is also available in Spanish. The major strength of the Spanish Thompson Chain Reference Bible is that it is like having a Bible reference library in the same binding with your Bible! It has an integrated topical index system with numbered references in the margin beside the corresponding text. The topical index is cross-referenced alphabetically in the back of the Bible, so that you can look up any category, and find the matching references throughout the Bible. The Spanish Thompson Chain Reference Bible also contains an excellent concordance, an extensive archaeological supplement, and a full-color Bible Atlas. I would highly recommend the Spanish Thompson Chain Reference Bible for anyone desiring to study the Bible in Spanish.

The Biography of a Grizzly

A CLASSIC THAT STANDS THE TEST OF TIME AND GENERATIONS
My grade two teacher read this book for the class many ,many years ago and it truly touched me. A bear cub who is orphaned at the hands of the human learns to cope and survive to one day exact his revenge on the hated human. The book is written through the eyes of the bear it seems and you can't help but feel his pain and rage as he struggles through life alone. Whab, the name of the bear, is taken advantage of as a cub and through life. As he grows and becomes more bitter and angry,he will at times meet up with his old enemies from the woodland and through his eyes they all seem so much smaller now. This book is not all anger and bitterness but has some very tender moments as well. As well as this book is written, I never imagined I could ever feel pity or sympathy for such a creature as a grizzly. Ernest Thompson seton is a gifted writer and I have passed this gift on to many friends and aquaintances over the years. If you are looking for a book that your children will pass on to thier children for generations ; get this book. D.Seguin Edmonton Canada

A book that remains forever memorable.
I acquired this book at age 9-10. Now, at age 75, I really miss it (it was "borrowed" 20-30 yrs ago). My nostalgic memory is of a haunting, memorable, and very literate tale of an excellent bear-person, who resolutely faces what life offers; infancy & vulnerability; growth & education, maturity & strength, suffering fools and agressors, and finally, decline and mortality. Seton's magic is to dissolve completely the artificial barrier between nature's creatures and ourselves.

wonderful
When Mother read this to me when I was a child, it delighted me and made a huge impression. She enjoyed it as much as I and I could tell she loved sharing this wonderful book with me. It is written for adults as well as children, and is fine literature. The story was so exciting, so touching, realistic, and funny. The end was sad and yet the author made me, a child, see that that is the way things must be; in the end of his life, the old bear must die.

Birds in Mid Flight

Reminded of an inside-out sparrow? Me too!
It's like my Mom, only without having splooted me out of its insides or anything like that.
I like it, because I haven't read it and don't intend to.
Sometimes, parts of my body smell vaguely like peanut butter. Especially the parts with lots of foldy-over bits, and mucus membranes. Crunchy!
Can you BELIEVE that somebody made a MOVIE about immigrant worker women in a Southern factory and one of them was going blind and there was a trial and it starred BJORK and CATHERINE DENEUVE and it was a MUSICAL? I told my cousin about it, and he hit me and said I was the worst liar ever and that I should at least TRY a little bit to make up stuff that was a tiny teenie bit BELIEVEABLE and that I insulted his intelligence even thinking for a MINUTE he'd believe such an outrageous load of hoohoo.

A good book of poetry
This book plainly states what is beautiful, what is sad, what is perfect, and leaves it alone --- exactly the way poetry should, without being overly inventive, or overly imaginative. There is a sense of magic in it as well, the kind that you can honestly tell Scout is not creating for the reader, but simply writing about with the utmost delicateness. My mother read a few of the poems and later told me that she enjoyed poetry again, after 30 years of going nowhere near it. Throughout "Birds In Mid Flight" there is the happily overwhelming feeling of wet grass on your bare feet, cold water in your mouth, and something warm and heavy in your heart. A healthy and wise investment.

the mind bedamned, this is poetry for the heart
it's hard to describe why i like thompson's poetry the way i do. there's something brutally honest about the way he writes...he puts things in a way that bypasses your conscious mind entirely, and screams emotions at your subconscious. this isn't poetry to interpret, or to read aloud, or to underline and send to a lover... this is poetry to read alone, at night, with a big mug of tea and a lot of blankets. bravo, mr. thompson; i for one eagerly await another book.

Bottlenose Dolphins (Worldlife Library)
Published in Paperback by Voyageur Press (May, 1994)
Authors: Ben Wilson and Paul B. Thompson
Average review score:

Learn about the bottlenose dolphin.
Unlike so many other books about dolphins this book focuses only on the bottlenose dolphin. It gives the reader a basic idea of the life of this species and includes a lot of interesting facts about them. The authors are not writing down second hand info but are both researching these dolphins off the coast of Scottland. Instead of having school book like anatomical drawings and graphs this book remids me more like talking to a dolphin expert while going on a boat watching them in the sea.

I saw this book at a friend and liked the photos so much that I knew I needed it for my collection, too. Being a wildlife photographer (with a special focus on dolphins) I always enjoy looking at as good photos of dolphins as found in this book. This book makes an excelent gift for any dolphin fan.

Publisher Synopsis
One look at researcher Paul Thompson's book and it's easy to see why bottlenose dolphins continue to be the world's favorite aquarium animal. Thompson's incredible knowledge coupled with lively photographs of bottlenose dolphins effortlessly flying from the ocean in unison and weaving in the depths of the azure sea make for a treasured book. He explores the world of these fascinating creatures from physical to sociological structures. Thompson writes of the dolphin family structure; feeding habits; and relationships with humans and whales, dolphins and porpoises.

Beautifully Photographed!
Informative and beautifully photographed! Recommended for those seeking to view dolphin photos and covers the areas from birth, conservation and politics to general statistics. Enjoy it!

Brand Spirit : How Cause Related Marketing Builds Brands

Doing Well by Doing Good
This book is an eye-opener! Pringle and Thompson have given us a how-to manual on the art and science of cause related marketing. Solidly researched and documented, engagingly written, and replete with case studies from both sides of the Atlantic, Brand Spirit makes a convincing case for the efficacy and the ethics of doing well by doing good. No serious marketing practitioner can afford to remain uninformed about the cogent argument the book advances.

Compelling and convincing.
If you aren't moved to get cause-related marketing into your organisation you have ice flowing through your veins. Pringle and Thomson do an convincing job of showing the benefits and fun of having a brand with spirit. With all the lip service being paid to corporate values, Brand Spirit shows companies how to live them. Well done.

Win-Win
I find this book very easy to read and absorb. The ideas are practical and may very well deserve more attention. Along the lines of the theory of the Invisible hand, I think the world/society in general will be a better place if companies start thinking and implementing Cause Related Marketing. Also, as the authors relate both American and Uk case studies, it makes the book even more insightful on the subject of marketing in the international arena. Definately a good introductory reading on the subject matter.

Hopeful & Inspiring
What a wonderful book! I have a child who has a traumatic brain injury and was recommended this book by a website chatroom group who supports families living with brain trauma. We all have our own little trials to live through and sometimes it is very encouraging to know there is others who are going throught the same if not worse problems. I know now if I have patience and keep at it I can also live through my childs traumatic brain injury and be a better and stonger person for it. We need more people like the Mangum's who will share their story and give the world promise and inspiration. There have been times when I thought I could not go on or I can not fight this battle any longer and along came this book and helped me to not feel so sorry for myself. I hope there is a sequel to the rest of Chipper's story because it leaves the reader hungry for more. Thank you for publishing and selling this book. I have recommended it to everyone including my children's school teachers.

A heart-wrenching story of tragedy & triumph by a suvivor!
Thank you so much for a wonderful true story that kept my children eager to hear more. I am a mother who reads to my 5 children a few minutes each night. The "Chipper" book is one of the only books I have read to my family where they wanted me to continue more and more every night. Because of the nature of the accident, the age of the boy and the fact that is was called a miracle--it really is a miracle. As a mother my heart was breaking for "Chipper's" mother and dad and the terrible circumstances they where forced to try to take control of. I do believe my children appreciate me more as a mother since we have finished this book. I will recommend this book to everyone--which is something considering the book choices we have for our children. Please contine to publish more true stories like this book. It is definately two thumbs up!

Heartwarming, courageous and best of all a true story.
This is a very humbling story of a tragic accident that marks a families lifestye forever. Chipper is the result of a severe blow to the head by a very large ponderosa pine tree. His friends frantically try tokeep him alive until life support and air ambulances pick him up. After months in a children's hospital and hours of brain surgery--emerges a totally different person. The Mangum family endure so many hardship-financially, emotionally, socially and spiritually. When Chipper returns home--the schools do not know how to teach this surviver of Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI), his friends no longer understand him and his family struggles to find a place for him in society. This heartwarming story will melt your heart and I promise you will cry a bucket of tears as you live through the struggles of this family. I will not give the ending away but if you believe in HOPE and MIRACLES--this book is a winner. I was so encouraged by the strength of the human heart and spirit that is probably in all of us. A fantasic true mother's story that she hopes no other mother is forced to live through. A must to read for all ages...only have kleenex handy...you will need it. It makes me want to know more about Chipper and his life today. Sometimes our lives are so full of darkness that we fell their is no light left in the world...this wonderful story has filled my life with so much sunshine, it makes the darkness not so hard to enddure. Thank you for the opportunity for me to comment on this book. I originally purchased this book for my school classroom but have since given many copies away to friends for Christmas. I even undertand a student of mine who was in a motorcycle accident and resulting in a brain injury. I really feel I can teach him after reading some of the wonderful ideas in this book. A real MUST for all classrooms.

Wonderful Book!!!
I read this book in two days. It was so hard to put down. Each page left me anxiously awaiting to read the next. This is a must read for anyone enjoying historical Indian romance.

Very Highly Recommended
Melissa Sheffield wanted to belong, craved respectability after early life incidents cast her family's reputation in shadow. Her chance for this 'happiness' is placed in peril when her fiance, a well-heeled fellow of high society in St. Louis, sets off for parts west on a grand adventure. Melissa decides to take action. She follows him. To her great dismay, her hasty plan goes awry when the caravan she travels with falls victim to an Apache raid. Even worse, she is captured and given to a member of the tribe as a slave--a slave! Will the man named Cougar rip the remaining dignity she possesses away from her...or will this enigmatic man actually be salvation from her living nightmare?

Cougar, otherwise known as Clay Brodie, is tortured by his place in the world. He wasn't born Apache, but claims them as his own. Yet he reluctantly faces his legacy as a white man when faced with the ultimate test he has been presented with thus far--break this woman's spirit or kill her. It galls him that this spitfire evokes feelings that he has sworn never to feel. He can't love anybody, especially after suffering the most crushing rejection a human can experience. It is better not to feel at all.

Ms. Thompson has created two strong characters and placed them into an intriguing tale. Melissa Sheffield gives as good as she gets, and Cougar aka Clay Brodie proves to be a gentle giant in spite of himself. Thompson's voice is strong, as it always is, yet I think in this historical she is in her element. Her warmth and humor breath life into the story and keep a reader turning the pages, long past time to go to sleep! Bravo!

Couple Fits: How to Live With the Person You Love
Published in Paperback by Perigee (10 January, 2000)
Authors: Evelyn S. Cohen, Evelyn S. Cohen M.S., and Andrea Thompson
Average review score:

A Readable Guide to Couple Relationships
This book nicely balances practical suggestions with a theoretical foundation. The authors help the reader to identify the reasons for a couple's interactions, and offers practical ideas on how to work on issues between partners.

They describe three attachment styles--secure, avoidant, and ambivalent and during the course of the book help the reader to move to a more meaningful relationship with his or her partner.

Though they are clearly strongly influenced by John Bowlby's attachment theory, they don't hide behind jargon. It is a very pleasant read! I especially liked the "pearls" sprinkled throughout the book.

Couple Fits
Very comprehensive overview on how relationship dynamics operate; provides a framework to demonstrate how different characters can conflict under everyday life. Clear explanations of the 3 major behavioural types & the book proceeds to identify all the different permutations that exists.
It works through various case studies under each combination & provides useful tips on how to function 'better' within a long term relationship, yet maintaining your own ethos.
This was a very good comfort read for me

very helpful and interesting book
The book is extremely interesting and helpful. It provides an easy-to-follow means to better relationships in an entertaining fashion.

Crashing Satan's Party: Destroying the Works of the Adversary in Your Life

Author: Millicent Thompson
Average review score:

Power-packed with the "RIGHT STUFF" to defeat the devil!
Reading this book opened my eyes even more in recognizing the enemy and what he and his spirits try to do to the saints daily. This book re-affirms that God has not given us the spirit of fear. Reading this book assists in "polishing" the armor that we already possess and making us strong soldiers in the army of the Lord.

A guide to understanding how satan can deceive us.
Dr. Thompson's insight into spiritual warfare is phenominal. This book is very easy to read ( I read it in one day ) with many scripture references which allows the reader to have a better understanding of God's Word. Anyone who is "going through" and wants to be delivered should read this book.

Powerful and inspirational message for all!
Dr. Thompson presents a message of hope and victory through life's storms and battles. Her spiritual insight, biblical knowledge and personal experiences invigorates and releases the power of the holy spirit to liberate us from Satan's chains of bondage and dispair.
